Rebecca Grossman: Mother Convicted in Deaths of Two Boys Sentenced to 15 Years to Life in Prison

Wealthy California Woman Co-Founded Burn Center Foundation

Defense Team Opened Case with Testimony from Husband

Rebecca Grossman, a wealthy California woman who co-founded a burn center foundation in the Los Angeles area, was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison Monday for the deaths of two boys she struck in her Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon in 2020.

Her husband, Dr. Peter Grossman, testified in her murder trial that he had been in a vehicle hundreds of times when she was behind the wheel and had never been concerned about her driving.

The Grossmans' 11-year-old daughter was in the car at the time of the crash, which occurred in Westlake Village on September 29, 2020. The boys, Mark and Jacob Iskander, ages 11 and 8, were walking with their family when they were struck and killed.

Rebecca Grossman's defense team opened its case on February 13 with testimony from her husband and several expert witnesses.

Dr. Grossman told the jury that he learned about the deadly crash from their daughter and that his wife was "almost catatonic" when he arrived at the scene.

The prosecution presented evidence that Rebecca Grossman had been drinking alcohol and taking prescription drugs at the time of the crash.

The jury found Grossman guilty of two counts of second-degree murder and one count of vehicular manslaughter.

In a statement, the Iskander family said they were "heartbroken" by the verdict but grateful for the justice that had been served.

"We will never forget our precious boys, Mark and Jacob," the statement said. "Their lives were cut short by a senseless act of recklessness, and we will never be able to fill the void their absence has left in our hearts."
