Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois: Why the IBF champion is without his trainer during the AJ fight week
Trainer Robert Garcia has been unable to enter the UK in time for the weekend's event
IBF, WBA, and WBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua will enter the ring to defend his belts against mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev. However, he will be without his trainer, Robert Garcia. Garcia has been unable to enter the UK in time for the weekend's event.
Garcia has been working with Joshua since September 2019
The pair have been working together since September 2019 and Garcia was in Joshua's corner for his victory over Andy Ruiz Jr in December 2019. However, he has been unable to travel to the UK due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Joshua will instead be trained by Angel Fernandez, who has been working with him since 2015. Fernandez is a former professional boxer who has worked with a number of fighters, including Amir Khan and Kell Brook.
Joshua has expressed his disappointment at Garcia's absence
Joshua has expressed his disappointment at Garcia's absence but says "it is what it is." He added, "I'm lucky to have Angel in my corner, he knows me inside out and we've been working together for a long time."
Joshua is the heavy favorite going into the fight against Pulev, but the Bulgarian is a dangerous opponent. He has a record of 28-1 and has only been defeated by Wladimir Klitschko.
The fight will take place at the O2 Arena in London
The fight will take place at the O2 Arena in London on Saturday, December 12. It will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK and on DAZN in the US.
