Ames Brings Versatility and Athleticism to Longhorns Roster

Austin, Texas – As the Texas volleyball team prepares for the 2023 season, freshman middle blocker Ayden Ames stands poised to make a significant impact. The 6'3" standout from San Antonio Churchill High School brings a rare combination of size, athleticism, and versatility to the Longhorns roster.

Phenomenal High School Career

Ames was a force to be reckoned with at Churchill High School, leading her team to three consecutive district championships. She was named the District 26-6A MVP and Offensive Player of the Year as a senior, averaging 3.5 kills, 1.5 blocks, and 1.0 aces per set.

Athleticism and Versatility

Ames possesses exceptional athleticism and a unique skill set that allows her to contribute in multiple ways. She is a physical presence at the net, with a powerful blocking presence and an ability to terminate from multiple angles. Additionally, Ames is a capable passer and defender, making her a valuable asset in all phases of the game.

High Expectations for Freshman Season

Head coach Jerritt Elliott is excited about Ames' potential and believes she can make an immediate impact for the Longhorns. "Ayden is a special talent with a bright future," Elliott said. "Her combination of size, athleticism, and versatility make her a nightmare for opponents."

Texas Volleyball Outlook

The Longhorns enter the 2023 season ranked No. 4 in the AVCA Preseason Poll. They return a talented core of players, including All-American outside hitter Logan Eggleston and reigning Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year libero Sydney Petersen. With Ames adding depth and versatility to the roster, Texas is poised to make a run at another national title.
